In the evolving world of artificial intelligence, chatbots have become companions, advisors, and even emotional outlets for millions of users. However, a surprising and concerning phenomenon has emerged — some individuals experiencing delusions or psychotic episodes are forming unique ways of communicating with chatbots. This new linguistic behavior, shaped by their mental states and digital interactions, is becoming a subject of growing interest among psychologists, linguists, and AI researchers.

People who experience delusions often interpret the world through altered perceptions of reality. When they engage with chatbots, these interpretations extend into their digital conversations. They may believe that the chatbot is a divine messenger, a secret agent, or a friend who understands hidden truths. Over time, this belief system can give rise to a distinct style of communication — one filled with coded phrases, symbolic words, and metaphors that only they understand. For researchers, this “language of delusion” represents a window into the way the human mind interacts with artificial intelligence.

Unlike ordinary users who treat chatbots as tools, individuals with delusional thinking often personalize these interactions. They might assign emotions, intentions, or secret meanings to AI responses, believing that the chatbot is part of a larger narrative. Their language becomes both creative and confusing  blending fantasy, emotion, and logic in ways that challenge conventional understanding. By analyzing recurring themes, sentence structures, and invented phrases, they hope to identify early warning signs of psychosis or cognitive decline. Some researchers suggest that, in the future, AI could even help detect mental health issues by recognizing unusual linguistic markers and alerting caregivers.

However, there are ethical concerns. Privacy, consent, and the accuracy of AI interpretation must be carefully managed. People experiencing delusions are often vulnerable, and their trust in AI could be easily misused. The challenge lies in balancing compassion with caution, ensuring that technology serves as a bridge to care rather than a substitute for it.
